Congratulations to Dr. Mary Jane Moran!

The Department of Child and Family studies is pleased to announce that our very own, Dr. Mary Jane Moran, has accepted appointment to the position of Department Head for Child and Family Studies!  Dr. Moran had been serving as interim prior to this appointment.

Mary Jane Moran completed her Bachelors of Science in Special Education-Speech and Hearing in 1975 and then obtained her Masters in Child and Family Studies in 1976 here, at the University of Tennessee. She then earned her Ph.D. at the University of New Hampshire where she was on the faculty and served as the director of the university Child Study and Development Center.

In 2001 Dr. Moran returned to the University of Tennessee when she accepted a position as an assistant professor, then associate, reaching full professor in 2017. During this time, Dr. Moran has received recognition for her outreach and engagement within the community, and her teaching and research in early childhood teacher education with an emphasis on teacher collaborative inquiry. She is an appointed member of the Tennessee Association for the Education of Young Children’s’ State Board and co-editor of a recently published book, Collaborative Cross-Cultural Research Methodologies in Early Care and Education Contexts.
