Thank you for your interest in a minor in child and family studies. The minor requires 18 credit hours and courses that are required for the minor vary by catalog year. The catalog year for the CFS minor and the student’s respective major must be the same year.
Below are the minor requirements for catalog years 2012 to the current academic year. To determine which CFS minor sequence to follow, first determine the catalog year for your major, then select the corresponding catalog year below and follow the requirements listed. Contact the EHHS Student Services office in Bailey Education Complex room 332 (phone 865-974-8194) if you have questions about substitutions.
Minor Requirements
For catalog years 2016 or later, complete the following CFS courses:
- 210 and 220
- FOUR (4) of the following: 240, 320, 345, 360, 385, 460, 481, 497
For catalog years 2015–2016, 2014–2015, 2013–2014, 2012–2013, 2011-2012, and 2010–2011, complete the following CFS courses:
- 210 and 220
- FOUR (4) of the following: 240, 320, 345, 360, 385, 440*, 497
For catalog years 2009-2010 and 2008–2009, complete the following CFS courses:
- 211, 213, and 220
- FOUR (4) of the following: 240, 320, 345, 360, 385, 440*
*NOTE: CFS 320 is a prerequisite for CFS 440. Students wanting to take CFS 440 must first take CFS 320.

Substitutions are possible to accommodate a student’s need to follow to a specific catalog year for his or her major. To discuss a substitution and complete the necessary forms, contact CEHHS Student Services (865-974-8194).
